On January 1999, CHAB entered a period of transition in which it sought to organise the artists in the area along the structures of a formal entity referred to as the Community of Artists – Benque Viejo. The decision arose upon the move of the Government of Belize to establish Houses of Culture throughout the country.
On January 15, 2000, the Community of Artists merged to establish the Community of Artists for Cultural & Historical Endeavours (CACHE). CACHE has been registered in Belize as a not for profit, non-governmental organization. This group has become the support organisation for the House of Culture of Benque Viejo del Carmen. To this effect, it has incorporated the objectives of its parent entities to promote and preserve the cultural heritage and history of the western communities in Belize through artistic expressions.
CACHE, as an independent catalyst, seeks to preserve, conserve and elevate the Mayan and Mestizo culture and history through awareness, participation and integration with the community, at all levels. As an NGO, it will link its efforts of cultural promotion and preservation to sustainable development.
CACHE envisions a community that is united, disciplined, motivated and proud of its Spanish and Mayan roots. It hopes that this will set the pace for Benque and its immediate area to become an exemplary Mestizo community contributing to the social and economic development of the area.
CACHE extends a warm thank you to the following organizations for their unwavering support over the years. Be assured that your contribution has made a significant difference. We are truly grateful.
